Aeromonas veronii
Description
The AerVer dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Aeromonas veronii detection by using qPCR. Aeromonas veronii is a Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic rod that belongs to the genus Aeromonas, a group of the gamma subclass of the Proteobacteria. This organism is found in fresh water and in association with animals, being a beneficial symbiont of leeches. A. veronii is a common pathogen in aquaculture, causing skin ulcers and visceral haemorrhage in infected fish. It can also be a human pathogen, leading to diseases that range from diarrhoea to sepsis in immunocompromised individuals. A. veronii infection typically occurs though the ingestion of contaminated water or food, but it is also possible to find affected patients being treated with medicinal leeches after vascular surgery.
