Colibactine toxin (š±š¬š“) gene
Description
The Colib-Tx MONODOSE qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Colibactine toxin (pks) gene detection by using qPCR. Colibactin is a genotoxin produced by certain Escherichia coli strains that appears to cause mutations contributing to the development of colorectal cancer. These strains possess a specific set of genes, known as the polyketide synthase (pks) genomic island, that synthesise colibactin. Colibactin can induce double-strand breaks in host cell DNA, leading to mutations and genomic instability. The pks genomic island is primarily found in certain Escherichia coli strains belonging to phylogenetic group B2, including commensal and opportunistic pathogenic strains. These pks+ strains are considered genotoxic as they produce colibactin. Other Enterobacteriaceae species, including Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella aerogenes, Citrobacter koseri and Enterobacter cloacae, can also harbour the pks genomic island and produce colibactin.
