Foot-and-mouth disease virus genotypes
Description
The Foot-and-mouth disease virus genotypes dtec-RT-qPCR-Panel-4 comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for O, A, ASIA1 and SAT2 detection by using qPCR. Foot-and-Mouth disease or Hoof-and-Mouth disease (Aphthae epizooticae) is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals, including domestic and wild animals. Foot-and-Mouth disease is highly infectious and can be spread by infected animals through aerosols, through contact with contaminated farming equipment, vehicles, clothing or feed, and by domestic and wild predators. Foot-and-Mouth disease is caused by a picornavirus, a non-enveloped, positive-stranded RNA virus with an icosahedral capsid and genetically highly variable, which limits the effectiveness of vaccination. Type O is the most prevalent of the seven serotypes and occurs in many parts of the world. Type A viruses have always been antigenically the most diverse of the European serotypes, can be grouped into three major geographically restricted genotypes: Europe-South America, Asia and Africa. Type Asia 1 normally only occurs in southern Asia and have been considered less diverse than other serotypes. Type SAT-2 occurs throughout sub-Saharan Africa and has made recent incursions into the Middle East from north-east Africa.
