Description

The TheOriShin qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Theileria orientalis strain Shintoku detection by using qPCR. Theileria orientalis is a tick-borne protozoan parasite, classified within the phylum Apicomplexa and the family Theileriidae. It infects cattle, causing a form of bovine theileriosis that ranges from subclinical infections to severe disease depending on the strain and host susceptibility. Clinical signs may include anaemia, jaundice, lethargy, decreased milk production, abortion, and, in severe cases, death.

Transmission primarily occurs through the bite of infected ticks, particularly those of the Haemaphysalis genus. Originally confined to East Asia and Oceania, the parasite has since spread to other regions, including North America and Europe. Theileria orientalis is classified into 11 distinct genotypes. The Japanese Shintoku strain belongs to the genotype 2 (Ikeda), which is usually virulent. Due to the limited availability of sequences of Theileria orientalis strains in public databases, the design is based on scarce genetic information. Therefore, exclusivity against other strains of the species cannot be guaranteed.
