Mycoplasmopsis meleagridis
Description
The MycMel qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Mycoplasmopsis meleagridis detection by using qPCR. Mycoplasmopsis meleagridis (formerly known as Mycoplasma meleagridis) is a small, pleomorphic bacterium that lacks a cell wall and belongs to the Metamycoplasmataceae family. It primarily infects turkeys and, less commonly, chickens, causing respiratory disease, airsacculitis, osteodystrophy, and reduced hatchability. Transmission occurs both vertically, through infected eggs, and horizontally, via direct contact or aerosols in densely populated flocks. Mycoplasmopsis meleagridis is distributed globally, particularly in regions with intensive poultry farming, and poses a significant concern for the poultry industry due to its economic impact on productivity and animal health.
