BK virus
Description
The BKV dtec-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for detection of BK virus by using qPCR. The BK virus is a member of the polyomavirus family. Past infection with the BKV is widespread, but significant consequences of infection are uncommon, with the exception of the immunocompromised and the immunosuppressed. BKV is an increasing problem specially in renal transplant graft survival. The use of potent immunosuppressive agents is correlated with higher incidence of BKV nephritis. In the past, 30-60% of patients with BKV nephritis developed graft failure. Early detection and prompt diagnosis are critical to apply therapies to obtain a better outcome.
