Bluetongue virus

Description

The BTV dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Bluetongue virus detection by using qPCR. Bluetongue virus is a member of genus {Orbivirus}, of the Reoviridae family, consisting on ten strands of double-stranded RNA surrounded by two protein shells and characterized for the lack of a lipid envelope. Twenty-six serotypes are now recognised. The virus is responsible of the bluetongue disease, affecting ruminants, mainly sheep and less frequently cattle, goats, buffalo, deer, dromedaries and antelope. BTV is a non-contagious by contact and insect-borne acute disease with high morbidity and mortality which may be next to 90 percent. Distribution of the virus is worldwide and can be found activity on all continents except Antarctica.
