Capripoxvirus

Description

The Capripoxvirus dtec-qPCR-Panel-3 comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Goatpox virus, Sheeppox virus and Lumpy skin disease virus detection by using qPCR. Capripoxvirus is a genus of viruses included in the family Poxviridae. This genus is comprised by three species: Goatpox virus, Sheeppox virus and Lumpy skin disease virus. The diseases they cause are characterized by fever, papules, and nodular and sometimes pustular lesions on the skin. Goatpox virus can be transmitted by aerosol after close contact with severely affected animals containing ulcerated papules on the mucous membranes, being goats the natural host. Sheeppox virus causes a highly contagious disease that affects sheep mainly, spread through aerosols and contact with infected individuals. Both viruses are endemic to Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Lumpy skin disease virus, also known as Neethling virus, is spread by biting insects, and has affected cattle throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
