Chlamydia felis
Description
The ChlFel qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Chlamydia felis detection by using qPCR. Chlamydia felis is a Gram-negative, obligate intracellular bacterium belonging to the Chlamydiaceae family. It primarily infects cats, causing feline chlamydiosis, a disease that mainly affects the ocular and upper respiratory systems. Clinical manifestations typically include conjunctivitis, ocular discharge and blepharospasm, and occasionally mild respiratory symptoms such as sneezing. Transmission occurs through direct contact with ocular or nasal secretions from infected animals. The bacterium is distributed worldwide, particularly in environments with a high density of cats, such as shelters and catteries. While it is primarily a feline pathogen, transmission to humans is considered rare but possible.
