Clostridium difficile ToxinB

Description

The CloDif-Btx dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Clostridium difficile ToxinB detection by using qPCR. Clostridium difficile is a Gram-positive, anaerobic and motile bacterium with the ability to form spores. This species is often found in the environment, but infections only occur under certain conditions, for instance with a sustained use of antibiotics. This is because the natural microbiome of the human gut can prevent C. difficile infection, but antibiotics may alter the usual functioning of this defensive mechanism. This bacterium causes an infection of the large intestine, being diarrhoea the most common symptom. C. difficile is able to produce toxin B, a cytotoxin that may change cell morphology and cell signalling, and even cause cellular apoptosis.
