Clostridium novyi Alpha toxin
Description
The CloNov-Alpha dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Clostridium novyi Alpha toxin detection by using qPCR. Clostridium novyi is a Gram-positive, endospore-forming, obligate anaerobic bacteria of the Clostridiaceae family. It is ubiquitous, being commonly found in soil and faeces and is pathogenic, causing a wide variety of diseases in man and animals. C. novyi is classified as type A, B, and a non-pathogenic type C; distinguished by the range of toxins they produce (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon and zeta). When grown in culture, life cycle goes through 3 stages: initial growth wherein no toxin is produced; vigorous growth wherein toxin is produced and spore formation wherein endospores are formed and toxin production decreases. The alpha-toxin is lethal, causes necrosis in cells and is produced on A and B types.
