Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii
Description
The CryNeoGat dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Cryptococcus neoformans/gatti detection by using qPCR. Cryptococcus neoformans and C. gattii are two closely related species of encapsulated yeast belonging to the Cryptococcaceae family. Their teleomorphs are filamentous fungus formerly named Filobasidiella neoformans and F. bacillispora respectively. C. neoformanss is an obligate aerobe that can live in both plants and animals and can cause cryptococcosis in apparently immunocompetent, as well as immunocompromised, hosts. C. gattii (formerly known as Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii) is found primarily in tropical/subtropical climates and causes the human pulmonary cryptococcosis, basal meningitis, and cerebral cryptococcomas. Both are the most common fungi causing serious infections worldwide.
