The DOBV RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Dobrava-Belgrade virus detection by using qPCR. Dobrava-Belgrade virus (Orthohantavirus dobravaense) is an enveloped, single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus that belongs to the Hantaviridae family. It is maintained in rodent reservoirs, particularly species of the genus Apodemus, and is the causative agent of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome in humans. Clinical manifestations range from mild febrile illness to severe disease characterised by headache, abdominal and back pain, thrombocytopenia, haemorrhagic signs, acute kidney injury and, in severe cases, renal failure. Transmission mainly occurs through inhaling aerosols contaminated with the urine, faeces, or saliva of infected rodents. The virus is predominantly distributed in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, particularly in the Balkan region. Due to the genetic diversity described among Dobrava-Belgrade virus lineages, inclusivity for newly emerging or highly divergent strains cannot be fully guaranteed.
