The EBOV RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Ebola Zaire detection by using qPCR. Ebola virus (Orthoebolavirus zairense, formerly Zaire ebolavirus) is an enveloped virus with a single-stranded negative-sense RNA genome that belongs to the family Filoviridae. It is the etiological agent of Ebola virus disease, a severe haemorrhagic fever that affects humans and non-human primates. Clinical manifestations include sudden fever, fatigue, myalgia, headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired liver and kidney function, and in severe cases, internal and external haemorrhage with high fatality rates. Transmission occurs through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or bodily fluids of infected individuals or animals, or with contaminated materials. The virus is primarily distributed in sub-Saharan Africa, where sporadic outbreaks and epidemics have been reported. Due to its high pathogenicity and epidemic potential, Ebola virus represents a major public health concern worldwide.
