Ehrlichia spp.

Description

The EhrSpp dtec-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for detection of Ehrlichia species by using qPCR. Ehrlichia spp. are small, gram-negative, obligate intracellular bacteria. Several species can cause infection (Ehrlichiosis) in humans. These diseases are considered zoonotic as the main reservoir for the pathogen is in animal, usually mammal species. They replicate in the cytoplasmic vacuoles of host cells, especially granulocytes and monocytes, to form microcolonies called morulae. These agents are transmitted through the bite of infected tick. Rodents, deer, roe deer, foxes, cattle, sheep, goats, horses and dogs are reservoirs of these bacteria in Europe. Infection in humans is manifested as a nonspecific flu-like illness.
