Enterovirus
Description
The EV RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Enterovirus detection by using qPCR. Enterovirus is a genus of small, non-enveloped RNA viruses belonging to the Picornaviridae family. These viruses are widespread and infect humans and other animals, causing a range of diseases that vary in severity from mild febrile illness to severe neurological complications. Notable members include Poliovirus, Coxsackievirus, Echovirus and Rhinovirus, which are associated with several diseases such as poliomyelitis, hand, foot, and mouth disease, viral meningitis, myocarditis, acute flaccid myelitis, or respiratory infections. Enteroviruses are primarily transmitted through the faecal-oral route, but can also be spread by respiratory droplets and direct contact with contaminated surfaces. The assay is based on that recommended by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and the analysis shows that it can detect Enterovirus A, B, C, G and J. However, due to the high degree of diversity in the genus, the assay is not inclusive for Rhinovirus and other enteroviruses.
