Equine herpesvirus 4
Description
The EHV-4 dtec-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for detection of Equine herpesvirus 4 species by using qPCR. Equine herpesvirus 4 is a DNA virus, with a DNA genome enclosed by an icosohedral capsid surrounded by a tegument layer and an outer membrane, also known as the virion envelope. EHV-4 belongs to the family Herpesviridae that cause rhinopneumonitis in horses. Equine herpesvirus 4, and its close relative Equine herpesvirus 1, are the most important viral cause of respiratory infection in foals. Like other herpes viruses, EHV-4 causes a lifelong latent infection in affected animals who become the source for new infection for foals over two months old, weanlings, and yearlings. Death can occur in environments with overcrowding and other stress factors.
