Equine Herpesviruses 1&4
Description
The Equine Herpesviruses 1&4 dtec-qPCR-Panel-2 comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Equine herpesvirus 1 and 4 detection by using qPCR. The equine Herpesviruses are DNA viruses capable of infecting horses worldwide. There are 9 species, but EHV-1 and EHV-4 are the most common. Infection with EHV-1 is associated to equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy, which may be fatal. Also, respiratory disease, abortion and death are possible manifestations. EHV-4 produces a nonfatal respiratory tract disease in foals, and, in rare cases, can cause abortion or neurological disease. EHV transmission occurs though air or via contact with nasal secretions from an infected horse. Like other herpes viruses a lifelong latent infection is stablished in affected animals who become the source for new infection for foals over two months old, weanlings, and yearlings. Death can occur in environments with overcrowding and other stress factors.
