Foot-and-mouth disease virus type ASIA1
Description
The FMDV-ASIA1 MONODOSE RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Foot-and-mouth disease virus type ASIA1 detection by using qPCR. Foot-and-mouth disease virus is a non-enveloped, positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus belonging to the family Picornaviridae and the genus Aphthovirus. It primarily affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, and various wild ungulates. It causes foot-and-mouth disease, also known as hoof-and-mouth disease or Aphthae epizooticae, which is highly contagious and sometimes fatal. Infected animals exhibit clinical signs including fever, followed by the development of vesicles and erosions in the mouth, on the feet, and on the mammary glands, often resulting in lameness, reduced milk production, and significant economic losses. Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected animals, aerosols, fomites, and contaminated animal products. Of the seven described serotypes of this virus, A, C, O, ASIA1 and SAT3 appear to be distinct lineages; SAT1 and SAT2 are unresolved clades. Type ASIA1 is primarily endemic to the Indian subcontinent, including countries such as Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bhutan and Nepal, and is considered to be less diverse than other serotypes. It has also spread sporadically to the Middle East and occasionally into Europe. Due to the elevated mutation rate of the species, the emergence of new strains may affect specificity. Some novel clones may not be detected, or may yield weaker signal.
