Herpes simplex virus 2 and Herpes simplex virus 1

Description

The HSV-1&2 qPCR Duplex comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Herpes simplex virus 2 and Herpes simplex virus 1 detection by using multiplexed qPCR. Herpes simplex virus 1 and Herpes simplex virus 2 (species Simplexvirus humanalpha1 and Simplexvirus humanalpha2), are double-stranded DNA viruses belonging to the family Orthoherpesviridae. They primarily infect humans and establish lifelong latency in sensory neurons, with periodic reactivation. Herpes simplex virus 1 is mainly associated with oral herpes, typically presenting as cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth and face. Herpes simplex virus 2 is the leading cause of genital herpes, characterised by painful genital ulcers and vesicular lesions, with recurrent outbreaks. Both viruses can also cause genital or orolabial infections and, in some cases, severe complications such as keratitis, encephalitis, meningitis, or neonatal herpes. Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected lesions, mucosal surfaces, or bodily fluids, including sexual contact, and vertical transmission may occur from mother to child. These viruses are globally distributed, with prevalence varying by region and demographic factors.
