Human immunodeficiency virus 1

Description

The HIV-1 dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Human immunodeficiency virus 1 detection by using qPCR. The human immunodeficiency virus is a single-stranded RNA virus belonging to Retroviridae family. The virus causes HIV infection and, over time, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). AIDS is a condition in humans in which progressive failure of the immune system allows life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancers to thrive. Infection with HIV occurs by the transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, or breast milk. Without treatment, average survival time after infection with HIV is estimated to be 9 to 11 years, depending on the HIV subtype. Due to its high genetic variability, HIV can be divided into two major types, HIV type 1 and HIV type 2. HIV-1 is the most common and pathogenic strain of the virus. HIV-2 has not been widely recognized outside of Africa, has lower virulence and infectivity but still can cause AIDS.
