Legionella pneumophila serotype 1
Description
The LegPne-1 dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Legionella pneumophila serotype 1 detection by using qPCR. Legionella pneumophila is a thin, aerobic, pleomorphic, flagellated, non-spore forming, Gram-negative bacterium of the genus Legionella. L. pneumophila is the primary human pathogenic bacterium in this group and is the causative agent of legionellosis or Legionnaires’ disease, a severe form of pneumonia. L. pneumophila is found naturally in most fresh water sources, including lakes, ponds, and rivers. It is found in cooling towers, plumbing systems, water heaters, and warm water spas. It has also been isolated from soil samples. L. pneumophila serogroup 1 is the dominant serogroup in clinical disease, reaching up to 84 % of human infections worldwide. Design was based on the publication from Ginevra et al. 2020.
