Maedi-Visna virus
Description
The MVV dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Maedi-Visna virus detection by using qPCR. Maedi-Visna virus is a single-stranded positive-sense RNA virus from the genus Lentivirus and subfamily Orthoretrovirinae. Maedi-Visna is a chronic viral disease prevalent in adult sheep, but rarely can be found in certain species of goat. It causes encephalitis and chronic pneumonitis by infecting the white blood cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage. It is known as Visna when found in the brain, and Maedi when infecting the lungs. The natural transmission of Maedi-Visna virus is mostly by the respiratory route, but also to newborn lambs by colostrum and milk.
