Mycobacterium sensu stricto
Description
The MycbSStr dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Mycobacterium sensu stricto detection by using qPCR. Mycobacterium sensu stricto is a core group within the genus Mycobacterium, consisting of Gram-positive bacteria. Tortoli et al. (2019) performed a new classification of the genus Mycobacterium, dividing it into several genera based on genetic analyses. The assay allows the detection of cluster II of Mycobacterium, referred to as Mycobacterium sensu stricto, which includes both M. tuberculosis and the M. avium complex, among other species. Members of Mycobacterium sensu stricto are slow-growing and highly resilient, capable of surviving in harsh environments. Transmission typically occurs through respiratory droplets, direct contact, or ingestion, depending on the species. Found worldwide, these bacteria pose major public health risk.
