Mycoplasma haemolamae
Description
The MycHaem dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Mycoplasma haemolamae (Candidatus) detection by using qPCR. Candidatus Mycoplasma haemolamae (formerly known as Eperythrozoon), is a red blood cell parasitic bacterium of llamas and alpacas. The bacterium attaches to the host red blood cells causing light to severe anaemia. Clinical manifestation of the infection can vary from subclinical infection to life-threatening haemolytic anaemia, coursing with chronic weight loss and lethargy. Diagnosis is difficult due to the lack of signs but PCR is a useful and sensitive test for detection of M. haemolamae.
