Oropouche virus
Description
The OROV RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Oropouche virus detection by using qPCR. Oropouche virus (belonging to species Orthobunyavirus oropoucheense) is a single-stranded, negative-sense RNA virus belonging to the Orthobunyavirus genus. The virus is transmitted by the mosquitoes Aedes serratus and Culex quinquefasciatus, primarily affecting sloths, marsupials, primates, birds and humans. Infection causes a disease known as Oropouche fever, which has caused several outbreaks over the last century. Oropouche fever typically presents with symptoms such as high fever, headache, myalgia, joint pain, and in some cases, a rash or nausea. The assay is based on the one recommended by the Pan American Health Organization with some modifications to improve thermodynamics and recognizes the whole Orthobunyavirus oropoucheense species and some sequences from Jatobal virus.
