Orthopoxvirus
Description
The OPXV qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Orthopoxvirus detection by using qPCR. Orthopoxvirus is a genus of enveloped viruses with a double-stranded DNA genome that belongs to the family Poxviridae. Notable members include Variola virus, Vaccinia virus, Cowpox virus and Monkeypox virus. These viruses have a broad host range and cause diseases such as smallpox and monkeypox in humans. The clinical manifestations of these diseases vary depending on the species, but commonly include fever, malaise, and the development of characteristic pustular skin lesions that progress through distinct stages. Transmission occurs through direct contact with infected individuals or materials, or via respiratory droplets. Historically, these viruses have exhibited a global distribution, although smallpox has been eradicated. Other Orthopoxvirus infections remain endemic in certain regions or are associated with zoonotic reservoirs.
