Rhodococcus equi
Description
The RhoEqu dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Rhodococcus equi detection by using qPCR. Rodococcus equi is a Gram-positive aerobic, intracellular, saprophyte coccobacillus which belongs to the Nocardiaceae family. It is responsible for causing suppurative bronchopneumonia in foals, and it also capable of infecting wild and domestic pigs, goats, sheep, and humans. R. equi may cause pulmonal abscesses, coughing, dyspnea and weight loss among other symptoms. The most common route of infection is the inhalation of contaminated soil particles since the pathogen is commonly found in dry and dusty soils. The frequency of infection can rise up to 60 %.
