Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus
Description
The StrEquZoo dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus detection by using qPCR. Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus is a non-motile, non-sporulating, Gram-positive, bacterium belonging to the Streptococcaceae family. S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus is a pathogen of animals primarily affecting horses, in whom it can cause diseases in the upper respiratory tract, uterus, umbilicus, and wounds; but its host range also includes swine, ruminants, guinea pig, monkeys, cats, dogs, poultry, and human. Zoonotic transmission of S. equi subsp. zooepidemicus is rare and is usually associated with drinking unpasteurized milk or through contact with horses by persons who usually have underlying health conditions.
