Theileria lestoquardi
Description
The TheLes dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Theileria lestoquardi detection by using qPCR. Theileria lestoquardi (T. hirci) is a protozoan parasite of sheep and goats belonging to Theileriidae family. It is responsible of the malignant ovine theileriosis in sheep and is transmitted by ixodid ticks of the genus Hyalomma. T. lestoquardi stimulates uncontrolled proliferation of the infected leukocyte. Consequently, severe tissue destruction and pulmonary oedema leading to respiratory failure are thought to be the cause of death. T. lestoquardi is considered a major constraint for sheep production in many areas of the world.
