Trichomonas tenax
Description
The TriTen dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Trichomonas tenax detection by using qPCR. Trichomonas tenax is the smallest species belonging to Trichomonas genus, composed of anaerobic parasites which affect vertebrates. T. tenax can be found in the oral cavity of humans suffering periodontal infections for which routine hygiene is not sufficient to remove. Exceptionally, it has also been found in the mouth of other types of hosts, such as dogs, cats and horses. T. tenax has also been found in some patients with a chronic lung disease and elimination of the parasite was enough for the patients to recover. This organism is transmitted through contact with contaminated saliva or water.
