Trypanosoma equiperdum

Description

The TryEqu qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Trypanosoma equiperdum detection by using qPCR. Trypanosoma equiperdum is a protozoan parasite belonging to the Trypanosomatidae family. It is the causative agent of dourine, a chronic and often fatal disease that affects horses, donkeys and mules. Clinical signs include genital oedema, cutaneous plaques, neurological disturbances and progressive emaciation. The parasite is transmitted through direct sexual contact. The disease is sporadically distributed globally, primarily in parts of Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. This assay can also detect the closely related species Trypanosoma brucei, which is the causative agent of African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) in humans and nagana in animals. T. brucei is transmitted by the bite of infected tsetse flies (Glossina species) and is primarily found in sub-Saharan Africa.
