Zika virus
Description
The ZIKV dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for Zika virus detection by using qPCR. The Zika virus belongs to Flaviviridae family and is thus related to dengue, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, and West Nile viruses. Like other flaviviruses, Zika virus is enveloped and icosahedral and has a non-segmented, single-stranded, positive-sense RNA genome. The infection, known as Zika fever, often causes no or only mild symptoms, similar to a mild form of dengue fever. Additionally, there is evidence that Zika fever in pregnant women can cause abnormal brain development in their fetuses by mother-to-child transmission, which may result in miscarriage or microcephaly. Transmission usually is through Aedes mosquitoes, but has been reported the transmission by infected blood or sexual contact.
