Avian metapneumovirus subgroups A & B

Description

The AMPV-A&B RT-qPCR Panel-2 comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Avian metapneumovirus subgroup A and subgroup B detection by using qPCR. Avian metapneumovirus is an enveloped, negative-sense RNA virus that belongs to the Metapneumovirus genus of the Pneumoviridae family. It primarily infects poultry, including turkeys and chickens, causing upper respiratory tract infections. It is associated with swollen head syndrome in chickens and rhinotracheitis in turkeys. Infected birds may exhibit clinical signs such as nasal discharge, coughing, sneezing, conjunctivitis and decreased egg production.

Transmission mainly occurs via direct contact with infected birds or through aerosolised respiratory secretions. The virus is divided into four subtypes, A to D, based on antigenic and genetic features. The A and B subtypes were the first to be identified and are widespread, posing a significant economic threat to the poultry industry. The high variability between Avian metapneumovirus subtypes suggests increased diversity within the species, which could potentially lead to future divisions.
