Since last January, GPS™ has been part of the Technical Standardisation Committee for Animal Diagnostic Analysis CTN-UNE 331 and the international committee CEN/TC 469/WG1 Animal health diagnostic analysis, participating in European standardisation initiatives for the control of diagnostic reagents in animal health.
On Tuesday, 17th of September, the fifth meeting of the Technical Standardisation Committee for Animal Diagnostic Analysis CTN-UNE 331 was held in a hybrid format, with an in-person meeting at the Spanish Association for Standardisation (UNE).
The origins of this committee can be traced back to 2022, born out of the need to standardise diagnostic analysis in animal health. Today, it comprises entities representing the central public administration, European Reference Laboratories in animal health, sectoral associations of this industry, and specialist professionals in the field. Additionally, it includes technological platforms, manufacturing companies, and representatives from veterinary universities in Spain.
CTN-UNE 331 focuses its activities on monitoring and participating in the development of European standards by the CEN/TC 469 Animal health diagnostic analysis committee, whose initial work plan aims to standardise quality controls performed on veterinary diagnostic reagents used by European laboratories.
Spain is heavily involved, alongside the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in developing the first package of European standards (prEN 18000 series Animal health diagnostic analyses – Control of in vitro diagnostic reagents), expected to be published in 2025. These standards are anticipated to support European control bodies, manufacturers, and distributors of diagnostic reagents , homogenising the authorisation procedures for diagnostic reagents in Europe.
This year, we will host the 4th meeting of the international committee CEN/TC 469 Animal health diagnostic analysis in a hybrid format at UNE Madrid, Spain, on the 7th and 8th of October.
