Taylorella asinigenitalis and Taylorella equigenitalis
Description
The TayAsi&TayEqu qPCR Duplex comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Taylorella asinigenitalis and Taylorella equigenitalis detection by using multiplexed qPCR. The Taylorella genus comprises Gram-negative bacteria that inhabit the genital tract of equids and are generally considered non-pathogenic. The genus includes only two species: T. equigenitalis and T. asinigenitalis, which are phenotypically very similar. T. equigenitalis is the causative agent of contagious equine metritis, a notifiable disease reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health. This disease is a sexually transmitted infection that affects both male and female horses, leading to inflammation. In mares, contagious equine metritis commonly results in infertility, and in pregnant mares, it can cause abortion. Differentiation of T. asinigenitalis from T. equigenitalis is crucial for the equine breeding industry, but it is challenging to achieve using conventional methods; however, it can be accomplished using qPCR.
