Aspergillus spp.
Description
The AspSpp dtec-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for detection of Aspergillus species by using qPCR. Aspergillus is a genus of fungi consisting of several hundredmold species found in various climates world wide. Aspergillus was first catalogued in 1729 by the Italian priest and biologist Pier Antonio Micheli. Today “aspergillum” is also the name of an asexual spore-forming structure common to all Aspergilli; around one-third of species are also known to have sexual stage. Some Aspergillus species cause serious disease in humans and animals. The most common pathogenic species are A. fumigatus and A. flavus, which produce saflatoxin (toxin and a carcinogen), that may contaminate foods such as nuts.
