JC polyomavirus
Description
The JCPyV dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for JC polyomavirus detection by using qPCR. JC polyomavirus is a double stranded DNA virus that encodes the large T antigen oncogene. It has the ability to produce multifocal leukoencephalopathy in immunosuppressed patients, causing a fatal demyelination of the central nervous system. Natural hosts of JC polyomavirus are humans of all age groups and often the infection can be asymptomatic if no immunodeficiency is developed. Active genetic mutation in the brain causes multiple variants of the virus to co-exist in the central nervous system of patients affected by this pathogen.
