Avastrovirus 1

Description

The AAstV-1 dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Avastrovirus 1 detection by using qPCR. The genus Avastrovirus is composed by non-enveloped RNA viruses that replicate in the cytoplasm of infected cells. This genus includes three described species, among which Avastrovirus 1 (also known as Turkey astrovirus 1) is included. The natural hosts of Avastrovirus 1 are birds, mainly turkey poults found in farms. Affected animals can develop growth depression, decreased thymus size and enteric infection. The disease can be transmitted to humans if infected meat is consumed, causing gastroenteritis, and liver or kidney damage. This virus is highly prevalent and has the ability to infect globally diverse avian species, including wild birds.
