Avian influenza type A virus subtype N8
Description
The AIAV-N8 dtec-RT-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Avian influenza type A virus subtype N8 detection by using qPCR. Influenza A viruses are negative-sense, single-stranded, segmented RNA viruses belonging to the Orthomyxoviridae family. Influenza type A virus is responsible of a severe respiratory disease with high morbidity and low mortality. The several subtypes are labelled according to an H number (hemagglutinin) and an N number (neuraminidase). There are seventeen different H antigens (H1 to H17) and nine different N antigens (N1 to N9). Influenza A is generally recognized as Avian influenza, sometimes called avian flu, and colloquially, bird flu. Subtype N8 has been detected in wild birds and poultry, causing massive economic losses. It has been recently linked to a disease in humans, but few cases have been reported. The kit includes two FAM labelled qPCR assays based on recommendations of the WHO, to guarantee the detection of all the diversity described of the Influenza A subtype N6. Both assays were optimized by GPS™ to work in a single tube to facilitate the testing. However, as Influenza virus are fast-evolving microorganisms, the inclusivity cannot be ensured for some new clonal strains of the virus.
