Babesia gibsoni

Description

The BabGib dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Babesia gibsoni detection by using qPCR. Babesia (also called Nuttallia) is a genus of protozoan apicomplexan piroplasms that infect the blood and cause a parasitic, haemolytic disease known as babesiosis. After trypanosomes, Babesia is thought to be the second most common blood parasites of mammals. Babesia gibsoni is a tickborne pathogen that causes haemolytic anaemia, thrombocytopenia, lethargy and splenomegaly in dogs. It has been detected in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and the United States. In many cases, a chronic subclinical carrier state is developed.
