Bartonella spp. cluster 1
Description
The BarSpp-1 dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Bartonella spp. cluster 1 detection by using qPCR. The genus Bartonella is composed by Gram-negative bacteria, and it includes several species capable of causing disease in humans. These facultative intracellular parasites are dependent on blood or hemin for growth and can be transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes, fleas, lice and ticks while vertebrates are reservoir hosts. Bartonella species usually present arthropod and mammalian host specificity. Symptoms of infection and response to treatment depend drastically on the immunological state of the individual affected. The genus Bartonella includes more than 100 species with a high degree of diversity. The BarSpp-1 dtec-qPCR assay is specific for most of the species marked in green in the phylogenetic tree, including B. henselae and B. quintana. Check the BarSpp-1 Annex for more information.
