Beak and feather disease virus
Description
The BFDV dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Beak and feather disease virus detection by using qPCR. Beak and feather disease virus is single-stranded circular DNA virus member of the genus Circovirus. It is responsible for the Psittacine beak and feather disease, which affects mainly the feathers, claws and beak of parrots causing malformations, secondary infections and necrosis. Since the thymus and Bursa of Fabricius can also be affected by the virus, infected individuals may be immunosuppressed. Birds can become infected though contact with the oral cavity, nasal passages, the crop or the cloaca of an infected parrot. Humans may spread the virus by fomites. The disease is a potential threat for aviculture and wild parrot biodiversity.
