Legionella spp.
Description
The LegSpp dtec-qPCR comprises a series of species-specific targeted reagents designed for detection of all Legionella species by using qPCR. The genus Legionella is a pathogenic group of gram negative bacterium that includes the species L. pneumophila, causative agent of Legionnaires Disease and L. longbeachae which causes Pontiac Fever. Legionella is common in many environments, including soil and aquatic systems, with at least 50 species and 70 serogroups identified. In humans, the species L. pneumophila invades and replicates in macrophages. In depth comparative genome analysis using DNA arrays to study the gene content of 180 Legionella strains revealed the high genome plasticity and frequent horizontal gene transfer.
