Streptococcus spp.
Description
The StrSpp dtec-qPCR comprises a series of specific targeted reagents designed for Streptococcus spp. detection by using qPCR. Streptococcus is a diverse genus of Gram-positive bacteria of the order Lactobacillales. Many streptococcal species are not pathogenic, and form part of the commensal microbiota of the mouth, skin, intestine, and upper respiratory tract. However, some Streptococcus species infects a barrage of different animals, including humans, with diseases as pink eye, meningitis, bacterial pneumonia, endocarditis, erysipelas and necrotizing fasciitis. Some of this relevant pathogenic species are: S. agalactiae, S. dysgalactiae, S. bovis, S. suis, S. pneumoniae or S. gallolyticus. Due to the ubiquitous presence of this genus, it is possible to obtain low copy number amplifications in the negative controls if special care is not taken in the preparation of the reactions.
